Opposition protesters in Georgia's breakaway province of Abkhazia have refused to cede control of key government buildings that demonstrators stormed to protest new measures allowing Russians to buy property in the area.

Protesters in Georgia's Russia-backed breakaway region of Abkhazia declined on Saturday to leave the parliament building which they stormed the previous day, a departure proposed by the region's president as a condition for resigning.

Protesters in the main city of occupied Abkhazia, Sukhumi, broke through the fence around the complex of "government buildings" and partially seized them on the afternoon of 15 November, protesting against the approval of an "investment agreement" with Russia.
