Millions of Americans can expect winter weather this weekend as a storm brings ice, snow and rain across the central Plains, Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic.

A major winter storm is set to sweep across much of the nation's middle section this weekend into early next week, bringing a swath of hazardous snow and ice. Track the storm's progress and forecast:

Chief Meteorologist Lisa Teachman says a winter storm will take a swing and hit Kansas this weekend. This powerful and impactful system will bring just about everything from rain, accumulations of freezing rain and sleet to snow.

A midday snowstorm is rolling into eastern Iowa on Thursday, with the potential for several inches of accumulation throughout the day. The National Weather Service is forecasting snowfall throughout the late morning and early afternoon in Linn and Johnson County.
