Ice and snow could form in parts of Scotland and northern England from Sunday. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings due to the travel disruptions, injuries and power cuts they could cause. A relatively mild autumn looks about to give way to cold front bringing more winter-y vibes.

The Met Office has warned that snow may be on its way for areas of the UK next, as temperatures plummet. The national forecasters are predicting a "notable early winter cold spell " arriving from the north from Sunday night, which will see the whole of the country freeze.

A separate alert, covering parts of northern England and Southern Scotland, comes in force at 10am on Monday morning and remains in place for 24 hours, until 10am on Tuesday morning, according to the leading forcasting agency.

Forecasters say it is too early to predict exactly where the wintry weather will hit, but are confident of a "cold spell" next week.
