A coalition of voter groups is suing Alabama officials over a policy they say illegally targets naturalized citizens to keep them from voting in the upcoming election.

A longtime state resident born in Florida and naturalized citizens are among the victims of Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen’s effort to remove noncitizens from the voter rolls, according to a lawsuit they and others filed Friday in federal court in Birmingham.

A lawsuit brought forward by several advocacy groups alleges that four individuals in Alabama have been unfairly targeted by the state’s voter roll purge ahead of the presidential election in November.
