COLUMBIA — With less than 50 days remaining before Election Day, clerks from across the country are helping voters get registered to vote. In order to vote in the Nov. 5 general election, Missourians must be registered before Oct. 8.

Johnson County’s election commissioner estimates that only 1 in 5 voter registrations his office has received are from new voters. Some are duplicates from people already registered.

Two Texas officials were sued this week after they were accused of violating the National Voter Registration Act. On Wednesday, officials in Travis County, Texas, filed lawsuits against the state's Attorney General Ken Paxton and Secretary of State Jane Nelson over alleged attempts to block voter registration efforts ahead of the November presidential election.
