An active jet stream will sling storm after storm into the Northwest. One after another, a series of storms will slam into Northern California and the Pacific Northwest over the next week.

Christmas and the holiday days following could be somewhat active and stormy with rounds of significant mountain snow, gusty weather, heavy rain and the risk of landslides and some river flooding. The best chance for thunder will be over the Kitsap Peninsula, the South Sound and the Olympic Peninsula. The craft is billed as a taxi of the future.

Another storm system is moving into Northern California just in time for Christmas Eve, bringing widespread rain to the valley and snow to the Sierra. Expect travel impacts just in time for the holiday.

An atmospheric river will move into Western Washington from Christmas Day to Thursday, bringing heavy rain, wind and mountain snow.

The weather outside on Christmas will, in fact, be frightful as storms roll into the region. Back-to-back storms beginning Tuesday night will bring rain and wind on Christmas on Wednesday, and more will occur into the end of the week for post-Christmas travel as well.

Strongest wind expected for the coast and north, while Cascade passes could see one to two feet of snow through Thursday.
