Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday afternoon the Ulster County resident believed to have contracted New York state’s first case of EEE since 2015 died.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared the mosquito-borne EEE virus an imminent threat to the public after the death of a person in Ulster County.

New York’s first human case of mosquito-borne Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) since 2015 has ended in death. New York has since issued a Declaration of Imminent Threat to Public Health and health officials are urging New Yorkers to follow recommendations to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illness.
