The Washington Capitals made the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024. Their qualification for the postseason was historic in nature. The Capitals had the lowest-goal differential of any qualifying playoff team since 1991.

ARLINGTON, V.A. — Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin wasn't going to miss the first day of training camp for anything. That's why the 39-year-old was on the ice and all smiles for Day 1, but was limited in his practice and is "a little bit nicked up" to get things started, head coach Spencer Carbery said.

Scoring goals isn’t getting any easier, according to Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin. The 39-year-old started his 20th NHL training camp on Thursday with his eyes set on Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goal-scoring record.
