The night was supposed to be remembered for a collective show of appreciation: 18,000 fans wore white captain’s hats, simultaneously doffing them to honor Klay Thompson, the former Golden State Warriors star and avid boater.

Thompson finished with 22 points in an emotional return for the first time since he departed to join Dallas in July.
