Airfares between Australia’s major cities have surged following the collapse of regional carrier Rex, with prices on one route almost doubling, the nation’s competition regulator said.

Domestic airfares have increased by 13.3 per cent in price since Rex entered voluntary administration in July and abandoned providing services to Australia’s major cities.
